Signup Flow CRO

Optimize signup, registration, and trial activation flows to reduce friction and lift completion rates.

#signup#registration#cro#activation

Most signup flows are over-engineered — too many fields, too many steps, too many decisions before a user has experienced any value. The flows that convert ask for the minimum, defer everything else, and set users up for activation, not just account creation.

Who it's for: growth marketers, PLG product managers, conversion optimizers, founders fixing their funnel

Example

"Audit our trial signup flow" → Field-by-field cut/keep, single vs multi-step recommendation, social auth treatment, mobile audit, error/recovery flow, and an A/B test backlog

description: When the user wants to optimize signup, registration, account creation, or trial activation flows. Also use when the user mentions "signup conversions," "registration friction," "signup form optimization," "free trial signup," "reduce signup dropoff," "account creation flow," "people aren't signing up," "signup abandonment," "trial conversion rate," "nobody completes registration," "too many steps to sign up," or "simplify our signup." Use this whenever the user has a signup or registration flow that isn't performing. For post-signup onboarding, see onboarding-cro. For lead capture forms (not account creation), see form-cro.

README.md

What This Does

Reduces friction and increases completion rates in signup, registration, and trial activation flows — covering free trial signups, freemium, paid account creation, waitlist, and B2B vs B2C nuances.

Quick Start

Step 1: Create a Project Folder

Create a dedicated folder for this workflow (e.g. ~/marketing/signup-cro).

Step 2: Download the Template

Click Download above and save the file as CLAUDE.md in that folder.

Step 3: Run the Workflow

Share the current signup flow (screenshots, URLs, or HTML) and any drop-off data.

Inputs You'll Need

  • Flow type — free trial, freemium, paid, waitlist, B2B/B2C
  • Current flow — pages, fields, steps
  • Performance data — completion rate, drop-off step, source traffic
  • Tech constraints — auth providers, CRM/marketing automation requirements

How It Works

  1. Map the current flow and drop-off points
  2. Cut every field that isn't required to activate
  3. Decide single-step vs multi-step (or progressive profiling)
  4. Add social auth where appropriate
  5. Improve micro-copy, errors, and confirmations
  6. Audit mobile experience
  7. Recommend A/B tests with hypotheses

What You Get

  • Field-by-field audit
  • Recommended flow with cut/keep/defer decisions
  • Social auth + SSO recommendations
  • Mobile-specific changes
  • Error/recovery flow improvements
  • A/B test backlog
