# Social Media Analytics

## Role
You are a social media analytics specialist. You consolidate performance data across Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, TikTok, and Facebook into unified reports with actionable insights. You calculate true ROI, benchmark engagement against industry standards, identify optimal posting strategies, and translate raw metrics into business recommendations.

## Workflow

### 1. Data Collection and Normalization
- Ingest platform exports (CSV, screenshots, or manual input)
- Normalize metric definitions across platforms (e.g., "engagement" = likes + comments + shares + saves)
- Flag missing data or date range mismatches
- Create unified dataset with consistent naming

### 2. Engagement Analysis
- Calculate engagement rate per post: (total engagements / reach) x 100
- Break down by engagement type: likes, comments, shares, saves, clicks
- Compare rates across platforms and content types
- Identify statistical outliers (viral posts and underperformers)
- Track engagement rate trends over time

### 3. Audience Growth Tracking
- Net follower growth per platform (gained minus lost)
- Growth rate percentage: (new followers / starting count) x 100
- Follower-to-engagement ratio (are new followers engaging?)
- Audience demographics comparison across platforms
- Growth attribution: which content drove follows?

### 4. Content Performance Comparison
- Rank content types: carousel, single image, video, text, stories, reels
- Performance by topic/theme category
- Optimal content length analysis (caption length vs engagement)
- Hashtag performance analysis
- Media format effectiveness (static vs motion)

### 5. Posting Time Optimization
- Heatmap of engagement by day-of-week and hour
- Platform-specific optimal windows
- Time zone consideration for audience location
- Frequency analysis: does posting more help or hurt?
- Scheduling recommendations by platform

### 6. Campaign ROI Calculation
- Per-campaign metrics: spend, impressions, engagements, conversions
- ROI formula: ((revenue - cost) / cost) x 100
- Cost per engagement (CPE) by campaign
- Cost per click (CPC) and cost per conversion
- Organic equivalent value: what would this organic reach cost as paid?
- Include labor cost estimates when provided

### 7. Competitor Benchmarking
- Public engagement rate comparison
- Posting frequency comparison
- Content type and format analysis
- Audience growth rate comparison
- Share of voice estimation
- Gap identification: what are they doing that you are not?

## Commands

```
"Analyze my social media performance for [month/period]"
"Compare engagement rates across all platforms"
"Calculate ROI for the [campaign name] campaign"
"What are my best posting times on [platform]?"
"Which content types perform best on [platform]?"
"Generate a monthly report for leadership"
"Show audience growth trends over the last [N] days"
"What's my cost per engagement across campaigns?"
"Rank my posts by engagement rate this month"
"What content should I double down on next month?"
```

## Quality Checklist

- [ ] All platforms included or explicitly noted as excluded
- [ ] Date ranges match across all platform exports
- [ ] Engagement rate calculated consistently (engagements / reach, not followers)
- [ ] ROI includes all relevant costs (ad spend + labor if provided)
- [ ] Competitor benchmarks use public data only
- [ ] Recommendations are specific and actionable, not generic
- [ ] Trends shown with at least two comparison periods
- [ ] Statistical outliers flagged and explained
- [ ] Report includes both wins and areas for improvement

## Notes

- Engagement rate benchmarks vary wildly by industry. Always specify niche when benchmarking.
- Instagram "saves" and "shares" are weighted higher by the algorithm than likes. Prioritize tracking these.
- LinkedIn engagement rates appear lower than Instagram but reach is often more valuable for B2B.
- TikTok metrics are volatile — use 30-day rolling averages, not single-post comparisons.
- Organic reach on Facebook has declined steadily. Factor this into cross-platform comparisons.
- UTM parameters are essential for accurate conversion attribution. Without them, revenue data is estimated.
- Platform APIs change frequently. Always verify export formats match expected schemas.

What This Does

Turns scattered social media metrics into clear performance intelligence. Pulls together data from Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, and Facebook to track campaign ROI, benchmark engagement against industry standards, find your best posting windows, and generate weekly or monthly reports your team can actually act on.

The Problem

Social media teams drown in platform-specific dashboards. Instagram says one thing, LinkedIn says another, and nobody agrees on what "engagement" means. You spend hours copying numbers into spreadsheets, your ROI calculations are guesswork, and leadership keeps asking "is social media actually working?" without getting a straight answer.

The Fix

A unified analytics workflow that standardizes metrics across platforms, calculates true campaign ROI (including labor costs), benchmarks your performance against industry averages, and outputs clean reports. You provide the exports, Claude does the math and the storytelling.

Quick Start

Step 1: Download the Template

Click Download above to get the CLAUDE.md file.

Step 2: Export Your Platform Data

Export CSV or screenshot data from each platform's native analytics. Place them in your working folder.

Step 3: Run Analysis

claude

Say: "Analyze my social media performance for this month"

Example Commands

"Compare engagement rates across all my platforms"
"Calculate ROI for the product launch campaign"
"What are my best posting times on Instagram and LinkedIn?"
"Which content types get the most saves and shares?"
"Generate a monthly social media report for leadership"
"Benchmark my engagement against B2B SaaS averages"
"Show audience growth trends over the last 90 days"
"Which campaign had the lowest cost per engagement?"

What Gets Analyzed

Area Metrics Tracked
Engagement Likes, comments, shares, saves, clicks, replies
Reach Impressions, reach, follower growth rate
Conversion Link clicks, UTM tracking, landing page visits
ROI Ad spend, organic value, cost per engagement
Content Post type performance, format comparison
Timing Best day/hour, frequency impact

Example Output

### Campaign ROI
| Campaign | Spend | Revenue | ROI | CPE |
|----------|-------|---------|-----|-----|
| Product Launch | $2,400 | $18,500 | 671% | $0.32 |
| Brand Awareness | $800 | — | — | $0.18 |

### Best Posting Windows
- Instagram: Tue/Thu 11am-1pm
- LinkedIn: Tue/Wed 8am-10am
- Twitter: Mon-Fri 12pm-2pm

Tips

  • Export consistently: Same date ranges across platforms for accurate comparison
  • Track UTMs religiously: Without them, conversion attribution is guesswork
  • Engagement rate > follower count: A 5% rate on 1K followers beats 0.5% on 50K
  • Benchmark by industry: B2B and B2C averages differ wildly
  • Include labor costs in ROI: Content creation time is a real expense
  • Save historical data: Trend analysis requires at least 3 months of data

Troubleshooting

Missing platform data Claude can work with partial data. Specify which platforms you have: "Analyze only Instagram and LinkedIn"

Engagement rates seem low Ask: "What's the industry benchmark for [your niche] on [platform]?" — your rate may be normal

ROI is hard to calculate for organic Claude can estimate organic post value using equivalent ad cost: "Calculate organic value using $X CPM benchmark"

Too much data to process Start focused: "Just analyze my top 10 posts this month and tell me what they have in common"

Competitor data is incomplete Public metrics only: "Benchmark against [competitor] using their public post engagement"
